Eight is Enough Teams

What is it?

Eight is Enough is a type of Pro-Am Swiss Team format wherein players are assigned a number 1, 2 or 3 based on the Masterpoints, with A players getting a 3, B players assigned a 2 while C players are a 1. The points for each team member are added together and cannot exceed 8. Therefore, teams could be the following configurations - 2 A’s and 2C’s; 4 B’s; or 1 A, 2B’s and 1C - or anything else with fewer than 8 combined points.

Here's the rub – the levels for A, B, and C will be determined based on who signs up!

How does it work?

  • Players can register for the event individually or as a pair. A pair may be two players of any experience level.

  • All pairs will be ranked by masterpoints and teammates will be assigned, highest with lowest, and so on. For example, if one pair has 100,000 points and two others have zero, they will make a team.

Why do it?

On Kauai we don’t have many chances to play team games – and often the games are pretty tough when they are available. This format lets us create fairly evenly matched teams, making it more fun for everyone!
